Food for Fines

Turn overdue books into food for the hungry April 8-14

Donate canned or boxed foods to pay off your library fines Monday, April 8 through Sunday, April 14 during Loudoun County Public Library's third annual Food for Fines drive.

The library will deduct $1 from your overdue fees for every unopened, unexpired nonperishable food item donated. (For example: Three canned items equals $3 in waived overdue fees.)

In 2018, Loudoun County Public Library collected 8,908 pounds of food and waived more than $8,600 in overdue fees in the second annual Food for Fines drive. Click here to see photos.

This time of year, Loudoun Hunger Relief is busy gearing up for summer break, when families with school-age children sometimes need extra support in lieu of school-based meal services, officials said.

“Our county library system is a fabulous resource for all Loudoun residents. We are so grateful to benefit from this effort by the Loudoun County Public Library,” said Jennifer Montgomery, Executive Director of Loudoun Hunger Relief. “The food provided serves our neighbors who need help the most. We can’t say enough about LCPL’s dedication to serving our community.”

The library cannot accept rusty, dented or unlabeled cans, homemade items, non-commercial canned or packaged items, alcoholic beverages, mixes or soda, or opened or used items.

Thank you for your support!
