INTERNMENT CAMP PHOTOGRAPHY
On February 19, 1942 President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the Wartime Relocation Authority to transport from the West Coast some 110,000 people of Japanese ancestry to ten interior centers in states including California, Arizona, Idaho, Arkansas, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. Here within perimeters surrounded by barb wire and guarded by military police, the Japanese Americans were detained in camps until 1945 and 1946 on grounds of national security.
